Willoughby Group, Nottingham’s largest family owned Dealer Group is pleased to announce that from 1st March 2006 every new car that they sell could be carbon neutral and that this will be done at no extra cost to the customer.
How will this be done? Well the average car emits about 4 tonnes of CO2 every year (enough to fill a hot air balloon).
For every new car that Willoughbys sells it will calculate the emissions of that car over a 12 month period by looking at its fuel efficiency and the mileage that the customer is expecting to drive. It will then purchase carbon credits from BP’s Target Neutral campaign to offset these emissions. This money will be used by BP to fund projects all around the world to reduce carbon emissions.
In other words, for every tonne of carbon that your car will emit in its first year, Willoughbys will contribute enough money to reduce the equivalent amount of carbon from being emitted into the atmosphere somewhere else. These projects might involve helping develop renewable sources of energy or using more energy efficient technology.
Each customer will receive a certificate detailing the contribution that has been made to the. More importantly, however, this action will give the new owners the peace of mind that they can drive their cars free from the worry that they are damaging the environment and contributing further to Global Warming.
Willoughbys have franchises for SEAT, Subaru and Isuzu in three locations across Nottingham. As far as they are aware they are the only Dealership that offers carbon neutral vehicles at no cost to the customer in the area.

With this new initiative we feel that we are doing what we can to nullify the effect that the cars that we sell will have on our environment and in particular CO2 Greenhouse gasses. Our customers now no longer need to worry about the emissions their vehicles make as our contribution to projects elsewhere will restore the balance. We feel that this is a huge step forward and are proud that our Company is helping to pioneer this responsible approach to dealing with the threat of Global Warming.”
